Call for interest
3 December 2020
On 2 October 2020 the ECB published a Report on a digital euro. The report examines the potential issuance of a central bank digital currency – the digital euro – from the perspective of the Eurosystem. It assesses different design options for the technical implementation of a digital euro at the level of the back-end infrastructure and end-user access solutions.
The Eurosystem wants to learn from technology experts to explore different possibilities and options for the design of a digital currency. It will therefore arrange a series of virtual workshops during which tools and solutions of potential relevance for a central bank digital currency can be presented. The workshops will be organised as closed events and will last 45 minutes each; they will be attended by representatives from the ECB digital euro project team and representatives from the euro area national central banks.
If you are a technology expert from a firm, organisation or university interested in presenting technological components for a potential central bank digital currency, please send an email by 8 January 2021 to DigitalEuro@ecb.europa.eu, describing the tools or solutions you would like to present in a maximum of 500 words.
Applications will be reviewed against the following criteria:
- track record in delivering digital solutions, in particular for payment applications;
- relevance for a central bank digital currency and the alternative approaches listed, for example, in Section 6 of the digital euro report;
- innovativeness of the solution.
