Environmental protection at the European Central Bank

We have a role to play in protecting the environment and fighting climate change.

To improve our environmental performance and reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, we implemented an environmental policy in 2007 and have been registered with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme since 2010.

HOW WE IMPROVED OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE IN 2023:

Establishing interinstitutional task forces focusing on business travel and carbon footprints

Conducting training on the inclusion of environmental considerations in projects

Improving the accuracy of internal quarterly carbon footprint reporting

Converting more lawns to wildflower meadows and replacing gravel areas with perennial flowers

Enhancing flight-related emissions calculations by introducing class-specific emission factors

Including environmental considerations in the future real-estate strategy
